A procedure for learning a specific subject is usually a list of activities that you need to do in order to teach that subject in the homeschool classroom. Some topics come with a step by step instruction manual while others are a lot more flexible when being adapted to your students. However if you are more organized with the procedures being set for all subjects that you intend to teach in the day, you are much more likely to get the day’s schedule covered with ease. Here are a set of simple procedure steps that you can use for almost any subject you like.
1. Gather your teaching material
Get all your books, reference material, maps, videos, and just about everything you have on the subject together. Go through them to see how you will be presenting the subject in class. See if you need to make photocopies of material to write on. Make sure the multimedia documents are working properly. Basically get your act together.
2. Outline your learning objectives for the homeschool students
What should your students be able to know by the end of the class? Outline the goals clearly in writing so that you can easily take a look to see how much you have managed to cover during the class. Don’t be afraid if you overshoot your class timing, you can always come back to it the next day, as long as you know what you have to accomplish.
3. List the steps the students must perform
Do they need to read the text book? Go through some questions to resolve doubts? Maybe trace a map or write down details in their notebook? Watch a video to gain better understanding or a different perspective? Write down these steps in a list. See what all you can manage in a single class.
4. Keep your procedure list handy
Now organize the material that you gathered according to the steps in your procedure list. Do ensure that you keep your final list of procedure steps where you can access it quickly. This is a simple way to hold an organized class.
