Spending time giving your child external stimulus makes it that much more possible for your child to learn about their world faster. It may even affect their IQ levels if some researcher’s theories are to be believed. Here are some toys that you can give as a proactive parent to give your child more guidance in her early months. Each helps the toddler think and solve a problem.
Stacking Toys
Solving basic problems allows the toddler to begin understanding cause and effect reactions. For instance when she places a smaller toy below and stacks up the bigger ones on top, the tower is not stable. However if the order is reversed, then it is easy to make a much higher tower.
Nesting Toys
These are again a good idea to develop hand and eye coordination as well as give them spatial reference. They will be able to fit things in the right order at about eighteen months. Of course all children develop at their own pace, so if your little one isn’t nestling the bowls in the right order just yet, don’t panic. You can show the toddler how the things fit into each other and then take them all out and place them around. Now let her take her own time to fit things in the way she wants to.
Building Blocks
The sheer simplicity of this toy makes it a wonderful teaching tool. You can get the whole set out and leave them around to let the toddler build any shape they want. You can make a simple pattern with the blocks on one side and ask them to make it again on their side of the play area. There is so much you can do make the designs complicated as they begin to get better at following the patterns.
Matching Games
These are again very good for cognitive skills development. Just take six pairs of things and match them up. It could be two spoons, a pair of socks and two soft toys, if possible identical. Now show the toddler how they match up and separate them on the play area. Ask her to match them on her own. Its a great way to show kids what goes together.
