An infographic is a visual representation of a series of related facts. There is a lot of data that a homeschool student needs to learn and process. By using infographics it becomes easier for the homeschool student to make sense of the data and assimilate it better.
Infographics help clarify and summarize the important fact of a complex subject. It’s excellent for retention and recall. As a homeschool teacher you will see that it is easier for your students to recollect data when they have memorized it in infographic form.
Visual Tools
Infographics are easily made using some visual tools such as map, charts, graphs, diagrams, photos, mind maps and flowcharts. These tools make it easy to combine the text, data and images that make a good infographic. The more eye catching the infographic is, the easier it will be to recall. That’s why a number of contrasting colors are often used in creating them.
Complex Vs Bite Sized
Infographics can handle a large, rather complex topic or make a small, simple topic more memorable. You can have a step wise infographic on a craft project, or a diagrammatic representation of different types of simple machines. No topic is too large or too small for an infographic. You just need to observe what it involves, collect the data that you want to share and then create the infographic with the most suitable tools available.
Organization of Data in Hierarchy
Put together the main categories followed by all the stuff that goes under them. This allows you to pinpoint few main focuses for your infographic. Grouping like items together is a good way to ensure that they are recalled together. breaking down a main category into smaller components will also help.
For instance think about the aisles in a supermarket. You want to buy a toothbrush, you go to the toiletries section and look for hygiene products. You can organize what you wish to teach your homeschool students in a similar manner and build inforgraphics around them.
You don’t need to be a photoshop expert to create great infographics, a couple of clip arts and memorable photos are enough for a lasting impression.
