Aurora’s Latest Video Shoot

Hey there! How about a sneak peek at a REAL video shoot with a real director, camera crew, stage, producer, and everything? A month or two back, Supercharged Science went to Sacramento for a live video shoot with School Videos, Inc. in Sacramento, and boy, did I learn a lot about acting!

I realized that my style is much more that of a live stage performer, like on Broadway… which is a far cry from actual filming for a movie! I did have the BEST director for a coach, and together, we created film for three hour-long videos in only two days (we skipped dinner and went straight to breakfast). The company that sponsored us is the same one that wins tons of awards for their educational films for the Discovery Channel and for nationwide distribution for schools… and they were great at their job, which is good, because I sure kept them hopping when I did mine! Click this link and you’ll see what I mean…

We’re coming to Florida, Minnesota, and Virginia!

Hi everyone!  We’re pulling together our events for 2009, and we’re trying out something new this year! Last year, I spoke at FPEA, MACHE, and HEAV conferences and had such a blast (literally – we shot rockets off indoors), and I’m coming to these three locations again this year, only this time I thought I’d stay an extra few days to play with the kids in a homeschooler’s Science Camp, and I am writing to be sure you received word about it!  We’re bringing over 400 pounds of rockets, robots, and lasers with us for kids ages K-12th grade to play with in a totally hands-on, fun learning environment.  We’re going to have two camps, actually… Supercharged Science Camp is for kids ages 7-12 years and RoboCamp is just for 12 years and up.

St Paul, MN from April 6-8th, 2009

Orlando, FL from May 25-27th, 2009

Richmond, VA from June 15-17th, 2009

Feel free to check out all the details by clicking here.  We’ve never offered something like this before – usually we are sponsored by a group or school to give a science camp, not the other way around!  But we thought we’d give this a try and see what happens.  If it’s anything like summers in our hometown on San Luis Obispo (which usually sell out about two months before Science Camp even starts!), it’s going to be popular!  :)   We’re also going to be at each of the conferences (MACHE, HEAV, and FPEA), so you can see us in action beforehand!  We’re planning to hold a few spots for any late-comers from the conference wanting to join us, but those spots will be at a much higher price, as it’s only a few days before the event.

You are welcome to help us spread the word and let your group know about this new event!

Happy Experimenting!

Watch Aurora test out a new rocket…

Ever wonder what Aurora’s lab is really like? You can get a sneak peek with this video – she was up late one night working on a new rocket for her Rocket Show while our camera crew was fiddling with settings on our new cameras, and we just happened to get the whole thing on film! Our favorite was when the floor caught on fire..

What are YOUR kids doing during winter break?

Searching for fun indoor activities to keep your kids (and you!) from going cRaZy?!  How about hosting a Flying Machines Fair?  All you need is a stack of copy paper, scissors, tape, paper clips, index cards, straws, paper cups, and a few rubber bands. Your kids can create stunt planes, hang gliders, jets, hoopsters, butterflying cups, and soaring UFOs in no time.  Dangle a few larger airplanes from the ceiling for bonus dogfight points, add a hula hoop for “basket” shots, and tape inflated balloons to the windows for targets.
