The library is a place that most homeschool families visit often. However educational it may be, as a field trip is it hardly exciting. Give your homeschool students field trips to new places where they will learn how certain bits of the world work. Let them have the opportunity to do something in the real world. Here are some ideas for free educational homeschool field trips that you can take your children on.
The Post Office
Make the homeschool children practice their letter writing skills. Grand parents are usually thrilled to get letter, cards and other trinkets from grand children. Once they have finished writing what they want to send make them seal the envelop and address it. Then make a big deal about how it can not be posted without a stamp. Here is your cue for the field trip to the post office.
The Bank
While ATMs and online banking have become so convenient, it is a good idea for you to take your children in to a real bank once. If they have their own account give them some cash to deposit with the teller. Teach them how to fill out the deposit slip properly and show them the whole process.
The Fire Station
All boys love this field trip. The fire fighters can be a huge inspiration to children. Many fire stations have an open day when the general public can come in and view all the fire fighting equipment. Call up the one in your town and ask when you can visit.
The Vet
As much as they love the family pet , they must be made to understand that the health of the pet is also their responsibility. Take the children along to get the pet’s vaccinations done. They will also get a great insight into all different kinds of pets that they see in the vet’s waiting room.
The Travel Agency
If you are planning a holiday take the children to a travel agency. Let the travel agent explain where all they can go and what all they can do. It would be a good idea to call up the travel agency and have a word with them about showing them stuff that fits in your budget.
