There is not much time to plan elaborate meals and execute them for the family when you are in the homeschool classroom making the kids study all morning. So how does a homeschool mom ensure that her homeschool students are well hydrated and nourished?

Gardening Helps

Making young children grow bits of their own food in terms of green leafy vegetables and fruits is a great way to ensure that they get plenty of vitamins and minerals in their diet. The whole process of procuring and cooking food from raw materials will leave them with a taste for healthy wholesome meals all their lives. Set out some beds in the back yard for them to grow what they like. Don’t have a ground floor home? Get a set of pots that you can plant and place around the home with herbs and vegetables growing in them. Use the produce to make fresh salads, and side dishes the year round.

Fluids of Interesting Sorts

Drinking water when you are not feeling thirsty is a common problem, specially in the winters. So how do you get your homeschool students to drink more? Have them participate in making clear chicken soup, vegetable stock and a whole lot more warmer beverages. Make it part of the curriculum to find the perfect soup for each day. Then take turns tasting each other’s preparations. Not only will their fluid intake go up, you will come up with a number of interesting recipes to share with family and friends.

Put Together a Recipe Book of Your Favourites

As you experiment with food and drink through the homeschool classroom, make sure that you chronicle your adventures by taking photographs of the little chefs as well as the final dishes. Record the recipe twists that you added and maintain a register with what worked out best. At the end of the year you can collect the whole bunch of recipes into a cook book that can be shared with your family and friends. You can share the ebook as a gift or even self publish it on Kindle and sell it online.
