How the Teleclass Works...

Here's the basic format of the call: Aurora will first walk you through the basic science principles of the day. Then you'll do a quick experiment by watching a video for instructions and actually doing the experiment yourself. Finally, you'll come back to the call for questions and experiment information (like how to take it further).

The video for the teleclass will be HERE on the day of the class (It's not here yet!)

NOTE: When you left-click on a video title, Windows Media Player will automatically start. When you right-click, you can download the video to your computer. If you have a Mac and can't get the video to play, download the WMV viewer here.

Questions? Simply email us at any time during the teleclass (we check it constantly throughout the class), and during the Q&A portion of the class Aurora will answer them, right on the call!

How to get the most out of the class:

Be sure both you AND your parent are on the line. We'll have several Q&A sessions during the class, so be ready to ask questions!

Get in a QUIET ZONE. At times, we'll open the line for audience participation. This means we'll hear everything that's going on on your end, whether or not you're talking! Be sure to get away from barking dogs, clattering dishes, and crying babies during our call together.

Have your internet connection online. You'll be asked to view video clips as we go along. Be sure you have your internet powered up and operational before the start of class. For slower connections (like dial-up), be sure to download the videos ahead of time.

Email your questions. Sometimes you have great questions that we can't hear! But we do check our email several times during the call, so have your email open and ready to type in questions.

Stay focused 'til the end. We always have bonuses for participants who stay with us throughout the entire class. Be sure to listen up for them!

Prepare ahead of time. If you haven't already, be sure to go shopping for the stuff you'll need. Otherwise, sit tight and get ready for a fun time!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is this call really free? Yes. We don't charge for these classes. The only charge to you is the cost of the phone call, which depends on your phone service. If this is a concern or you are calling internationally, you may want to check out www.skype.com for ultra-low cost phone calls.

I live outside the USA. Can I still participate? Absolutely! Just be sure to check the world clock before you call in to verify time and date. We have many callers from the UK, India, Australia, and China (to name a few).

How long is the call? The call is supposed to last about 45 minutes, but we sometimes we run overtime to one hour.

Do I really have to be on the call with my child? I have six other kids!! It's up to you, of course, but if your child has a question, you'll need to be the one to ask. We also recommend parents being on the line because:

  • First, so parents understand the information kids receive so they can help support them in a meaningful way after the class (e.g. so you get what your kids are talking about).

  • Second, to show your child through your actions (not just words!) that you really are interested in what they personally want to learn about. (Think of it as quality time spent together.)

  • Third, put us on speakerphone and have everyone participate!

I missed the call! Can I still get on the call? Sure! We offer classes every month... feel free to join us on the next ont!

Having trouble hearing on the teleclass? ...or did you get a busy signal? It's usually a long distance carrier problem. Try using an alternate phone (e.g., their cell phone) or 10-10 service number and try again.

Help! I had questions that didn't get answered! Good - that's the mark of a good scientist. Send us an email and we're happy to help. You'll get an answer right away.

Is there any preparation I should do for the class? Get your materials for the class ready. If you haven't already, be sure to download our Free Stuff. Otherwise, sit tight and get ready for a fun time!

See you in class!

Check out some feedback from other parents...

"I just started your Chemistry unit and have been shocked at how enthusiastic my 12 yr. old son is. I confiscated his slime so he can work on other subjects! I know now to do activities before reading the text to engage him."

~S. Gaines, Atlanta, Georgia

"I love it that I don't have to do a thing! I set my kids in front of the program, and later find them excited and working on something new they created themselves. This program is exactly what we needed! "

~Ursula, Santa Barbara, California

"I gave my reluctant 10-year old son your program. Three hours later, he made us late for an appointment because he couldn't tear himself away! He watched the videos over and over and built things I've never seen before. Thank you so much!!!"

~Barbara & Matt, Valencia, California

"Thanks so much for the fruit battery science fair project. She won second place today in 8th grade division! It is an especially meaningful "victory" for us because Lynne has a learning disability."

~Caroline Fetter, North Carolina

"Forget the kids! I'm excited by science now--teaching and learning. I was almost in tears when we saw the videos and started the experiments because I realized that she has something to follow if I get called away. Thank you again for filling a need in my daughter's life."

~Heather S., Toronto, Canada
