What is Science Camp and who teaches it?
Science Camp is designed and taught by Aurora herself. All campers get to keep everything they build (about 45 projects and experiments). Our camp sizes are limited to keep our camp top-quality and highly personal. Our Science Camp features intense science projects, complete hands-on learning experiences, and a fun discovery environment.

"You have been such a fun inspiration for our son Sam, and totally got him fired up to build, connect, explode, invent, test, create, discover, question...
and in a nutshell, get wildly excited about how our physical world behaves through experimentation. Thank you! Thank you!"
~J.Soto, San Luis Obispo. |
Is Science Camp only for homeschool kids?
NO!! Our camps are open to EVERYONE. Supercharged Science reaches many families, including public, private, and homeschool kids. We encourage everyone who is interested to give it a try.
How old are the kids?
Science Camp is open to kids ages 7 - 12 years old. If your child is 6 years old, you may still apply for a provisional registration.
A provisional registration means you we will contact you beforehand to be sure there is a good fit between your child and our camp. Education is not a race. We want to be sure that our classes will challenge your child in a meaningful and empowering way.
March 12, 2008: Quick funny story: "Last week, we taught our week-long Science Camp in Santa Barbara for kids 7-12 years old. Each day, kids get to take home their projects, and apparently, their older siblings wanted to know what they did at camp. By the end of the week, the older siblings had also enrolled in our camp (13-18 year olds)! Yes, we really had 12th graders doing projects right alongside the 2nd graders... I know it sounds crazy, but we see this happen a LOT!" ~Amy, Director of Communications, Supercharged Science
What does the camp cost? When does it start?
Science Camp is $165 for five days plus a $85 material fee. Drop off time is at 10:00 am and pick-up time is at 2:00 pm. All camps are at El Chorro Park in San Luis Obispo.
Click here to register. All camps include bonus Astronomy Night!
Note: We're unable to offer earlier or later drop times, and we apologize for this inconvenience.
"My son had a complete BLAST at camp last week. Please place his name on your waiting list for ALL of your remaining camps this summer. Thanks so much!"

I already have the Science Mastery program. Is the camp different than the box?
Good question! The answer is Yes and No. Yes, if you have worked through the Science Mastery program, you'll find many experiments again, but No, because Aurora provides many more variations of the experiments for further learning (many of which are custom-made derivations depending on your child's particular skill level). Also, our Science Camp works because it's made up of real people who really know about learning.
Science Camp is a carefully-crafted tiered-level learning environment - which means you'll find people both above and below your skill level. This provides great learning opportunities from both ends - both the teaching and being taught. (We have school teachers, college students, high school kids, working professionals, and kids of all ages in our camps.)
We're all about innovation and creativity, and our camp has something for everyone that attends with the desire to learn. Aurora covers about 40% of the Science Mastery program in one week of Science Camp, and no two weeks are the same, as she's always coming up with new experiments (ask her about the time we made HUGE kites that lifted kids 5 feet off the ground!) Be prepared for new material you've never seen before, and prepare to have a wild week of real hands-on science experiments!
"I LOVED the 'walking on water' experiment - that was my favorite! I didn't think it would work at first, but then I just stepped up and walked right across!"
~Serah, age 8, Santa Barbara

Do you offer discounts?
While we don't currently offer a sibling discount, we do offer a work exchange program. We hope to add sibling discounts in future camps.
We do, however, offer incentives if you help us fill the camp! Here's how it works:
-
If three students sign up for camp because of you, we'll send you the Robotics & Electricity kit, free of charge, as a thank you!
If you get five students to sign up for the camp, we'll give you a free week of Science Camp. No strings attached.
-
If ten students sign up for camp on your referral, Aurora will personally teach at your birthday the class you choose, free of charge. (Must be in the local SLO county area.) Happy Birthday!

"Thank joy! You're a blessing and huge contributor to the positive development of our kids' minds and passions. Thanks for all you do and all you are!"

You can also view our Science Photo Album, are two movies you can watch of the camp live in action! We cover over 40 different science experiments in our five day together, and we guarantee you've never seen some of them, as Aurora designs the projects herself!
Note: Our science camps are so jam-packed with science projects that we've found out our participants have used these classes to earn boy scout merit badges, 4-H science projects, and cub scouts science badges!
How do I register?
Registration is now OPEN! Click on the week you wish to register for. If you are registering more than one child, simply update the quantity on the order page. Registration closes when camps are full.
Tip: Last summer (2007), we were not able to accommodate everyone, we turned away over one hundred families from our camp! Be sure to register early!!

| "Cormic enjoyed camp so much. He couldn't wait to go back each day! You guys made it fun and exciting. He has been to a couple sports and one zoo camp. I know your science camp definitely has been his favorite by far. Cormic's favorite topic was robots. He can't wait to build more! Thanks again for all your hard work. "

We don't want to wait until next year! We want to do science now!
If you feel like you just can't wait until next summer, (and we completely understand, as we really look forward to teaching camp all year long!), we invite you to check out our Home Study Program. (And it's not just for homeschool families!)
If you're a cub scout, boy scout, girl scout, or 4-H student, check out the new Scout & 4-H Science web site!
"My sons Cameron and Gavin attended and originally did not want to go. First I want to comment on the starting time of 10AM during the spring break holiday. I thought it was great that I didn't have to wake my kids up early and that definitely helped them to be more attentive. By being able to stay up later and not worry about getting up early they really felt like they got their vacation time in and also got to enjoy a great camp experience.
" Cameron's favorite thing was blowing things up. On Thursday night I was amazed at how much he remembered. It was like a whole new world of exploration opened up for him and he loved it!
Gavin's favorite activity was the lasers. He loved how there was smoke in the room along with the lights. He also loved walking on water. My kids have already asked to go back. So we will plan on seeing you over the summer!
Thanks for all you do.
You both have great energy and enthusiasm and it really carries through."

My child wants to participate but I can't afford it!
If you feel your child would truly benefit from our camps, and you are in a tight spot financially, we're happy to offer a solution for you to consider.
We currently offer a work-exchange program, which simply means for every week you volunteer, your child may attend one of our camp weeks free of charge (excluding the material fee). Work-exchange programs are on a first-come, first served basis and do not include the material fee.
Your time commitment: 9:30am - 2:30 pm Monday - Friday. Please do not bring siblings when you come to work. It tends to be too distracting for all involved.
If you choose to accept the work-exchange commitment, you will not be placed with your child's circle group during the week you volunteer. This is important for you both to be comfortable with. We want to encourage growth and empowerment, and this is best served when parent and child are in different groups.
No previous experience is required. If you don't know the positive end of a battery from a screwdriver, don't worry! Just the fact that you are willing and able to help with knot-tying, scissors, duct tape, and clean up is enough for us.
If you wish to be considered for the work-exchange program, just fill out the form below. We'll be in touch with you by email.
